About Children of the Liturgy

Children of the Liturgy grew out of a longing within the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes to better help our children grow in the knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our desire is to make the richness of the prayerbook accessible to even our youngest worshipers, assisting them in developing habits of daily prayer, weekly worship, and life-long faith.  Additionally, we aim to provide a helping hand to clergy, church staff, and parents as they seek ways to meaningfully integrate children into public and private worship.

Over the next five years, Children of the Liturgy will publish four illustrated, child-friendly volumes of Book of Common Prayer liturgies along with an illustrated Anglican Children’s Catechism.

The books currently planned include:

  • an illustrated edition of Family Prayer*

  • a Children’s Catechism in partnership with the Anglican Church in North America Children’s Catechism Taskforce*

  • an illustrated edition of the Daily Office’s rites for Morning and Evening Prayer

  • an illustrated edition of the Eucharistic services

  • an illustrated liturgy for Baptism intended for use in preparing children to be baptized

The project team is working with the Custodian of the 2019 Book of Common Prayer to ensure these editions are in full conformance with the approved text and can be used alongside the complete prayerbook.

In addition to our print resources, Children of the Liturgy will also host workshops focused on both equipping clergy to incorporate children into prayer and worship, and educate parents and other lay leaders in how to confidently use the Book of Common Prayer to disciple children.

Generously supported by a Lilly Endowment, Inc. Nurturing Children Through Worship and Prayer Initiative grant, the Children of the Liturgy team is excited to provide beautiful resources in hopes that our children may never know a day apart from the Lord.
